In fact, each part of this plant contains active ingredients (in particular a compound called azadirachtin) with high anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antifungal, antimicrobial and antiparasitic properties .
The highest concentration of these active ingredients is found in the seeds, from which this oil is extracted, which is now used all over the world for the treatment of many ailments of man, animals and even plants.
What is it for?
Neem oil is a vegetable oil with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-parasitic and anti-fungal properties. For external use (not to be ingested!) It can be used on the skin and hair, on the hair of animals and even on plants, to treat and prevent numerous ailments / problems.
Uses for humans :
- Anti-wrinkle : Neem oil has anti-aging properties and mixed with other vegetable oils (such as sweet almond oil, or jojoba oil) can be applied to the skin to reduce the signs of aging, such as wrinkles and blemishes. This is thanks above all to its high content of carotenoids that defend the skin from free radicals, it is also easily absorbed, rejuvenating the skin and improving its elasticity.
- Dermatitis, eczema, urticaria, psoriasis : neem oil is useful in these cases because in addition to reducing inflammation (and therefore itching and pain) it promotes scarring, reduces the proliferation of bacteria (antiseptic action) and stimulates regeneration of healthy tissues.
- Dandruff : the neem oil applied to the hair moisturizes, nourishes it and reduces the formation of dandruff, thanks to its antimicrobial and antiseptic properties. Against dandruff, a few drops are added to the scalp, massaged and left to act for at least 15-20 minutes. After which it is rinsed with water and shampoo. This operation must be repeated every day (or almost), until the problem is solved.
- Mycosis of the skin and nails : neem oil has a marked anti-fungal action and its use pure or mixed with other oils, or essential oils (for example with tea tree oil) can be very useful for eradicating fungal infections such as those affecting the feet (athlete's foot), nails and every other part of the body.
- Lice : unfortunately still today there are many people and especially children, afflicted by the plague of lice that can lurk especially in the hair. Neem oil is an effective natural treatment to get rid of these unwelcome guests. To combat lice, just pour a few drops on the skin and hair, massage for a few minutes and leave on for an hour. After that you can rinse and wash your hair with shampoo. This action should be repeated every day until the lice have completely disappeared.
- Mosquitoes and other insects : in this case the neem oil has a double action. On the one hand it has a repellent action, so when applied to the skin it tends to repel flies, mosquitoes, wasps and many other annoying insects. It can also be applied to mosquito bites to quickly relieve itching.
Use on animals :
- Fleas, ticks, lice, etc. : neem oil can be applied to the fur of animals (especially dogs and cats) both as a preventive and as a natural treatment to eradicate our four-legged friends from the bite of fleas, ticks, mites and lice. It also kills the eggs of these parasites, so it prevents them from reproducing.
Use on plants :
- Mites, insects and parasites : its active ingredient azadirachtin is a precious repellent and phagodeterrent against mites, beetles, miners, grasshoppers, nematodes, aphids, noctuids, thrips, Colorado beetle, mealybugs, moths, spider mites. Despite being harmful to so many insects, neem oil is nevertheless almost harmless towards useful animals, pollinating insects and birds. It is classified as an organic insecticide and can be used both preventively and curatively
- Plant fungi : neem oil is widely used in agriculture instead of the classic chemical fungicides. In particular, it is mainly used against rust and powdery mildew
