Description

Fenugreek is a plant of the genus Trigonella, a term that refers to the triangular shape of its seeds and to the trigonella, a characteristic component of this plant.

For a long time fenugreek has been used to feed animals but over the time has been discovered its beneficial health properties.

Traditional medicine considers fenugreek a natural depurative of the liver and a valid regulator of blood values.

It has also been used for centuries as a tonic for those who are always tired and debilitated, as an anti-anemic and as a natural remedy to increase the milk supply.

Use Advice

  • Herbal tea: fenugreek seeds can be minced and used for seasoning any dish, otherwise they can be used to prepare a decoction. To prepare the decoction, pour a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in cold water, light the fire and bring to a boil. Boil for a few minutes and turn off the heat. Cover and leave to infuse for 10 minutes. Filter and drink. Drink 2 to 4 cups a day.
  • Use in the kitchen: the ground seeds are used in northern Africa as a condiment. However, in Yemen gastronomic tradition, the seeds are first boiled, then crushed and finally served with garlic and fried meat. If you want to use the fenugreek seeds as a condiment but you do not know how to do it, you can crush the seeds and add them to the bread dough, which will get a particular flavor.
