Ganoderma Lucidum, also called Reishi, is a mushroom, as well as one of the 10 most important plant substances from Traditional Chinese Medicine. In the East it is still considered a real long-life elixir and is used to stimulate the immune system, as an adaptogen and for the health of the heart, liver and brain.

Ganoderma Lucidum , or Reishi as it is most commonly called, is a saprophytic mushroom, or parasite, which grows and develops on stumps and branches of different trees, among which the most common are oak, chestnut and holm oak. It prefers warm climates, and it is also possible to find it in our woods from late spring onwards.
It looks like a large mushroom with a dark and shiny red color, with a hard and woody consistency. It is not a mushroom that is eaten, but it can be used for the preparation of decoctions , or as a powder .
Given its numerous beneficial properties for the organism and given the huge amount of demand, today Reishi is cultivated in almost all the world, even if the main producer remains China.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is counted among unconventional medicines and is believed to be the oldest known medical system. There are numerous ancient texts that document the use of medicinal mushrooms in TCM.
One of the oldest documents is Shen Nong Ben Cao (Divine Farmer's Materia Medica), written roughly in 250 BC
In this treatise natural remedies are divided into 3 specific classes . The most important, called " upper class ", is the one that contains the Emperor's plants, which only he or his court could use, while their use was strictly forbidden.
It is a set of plants with adaptogenic action and on the organism, which strengthen the constitution as a whole, rather than treating the disease directly.
Always according to Traditional Chinese Medicine these plants can be taken forever, as they bring numerous benefits to the organism, without any contraindications.
Together with Ginseng and Astragalus, 4 mushrooms also appear in this "upper class" : Ganoderma Lucidum (or Reishi), Polyporus umbellatus (or Chorei), Poria cocos (or Bukuryo) and Cordyceps sinensis (or Tochukaso). .
Among these four, Ganoderma Lucidum is at the top of this special ranking of top class herbs. It is therefore considered the main and most important natural remedy.
In China, Ganoderma lucidum is called Ling zhi , which means "mushroom of the spirit, or spiritual power", but also " mushroom of immortality ". This is precisely because it is believed that this mushroom is able to act on psycho-physical health at 360 °, helping to improve every aspect of our health .
These are just some of the properties that have been brought together over the years before by folk medicine, and later by studies done on Ganoderma lucidum:
Reishi has always been used for its important adaptogenic properties, properties that numerous researches have already shown.
What does adaptogen mean?
Adaptogen natural products act on the endocrine and nervous systems, increasing our body's ability to counteract stressful situations, both physical and mental. Adaptogenic substances improve the reaction capacity of the brain and adrenal gland, improving our body's resistance to sudden changes in climate, to great physical efforts, and above all to situations of strong mental stress, to which modern society increasingly submits us .
One of the reasons why Reishi is widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine is that it has the ability to improve the body's natural defenses by reducing the chances of getting sick of various types of infections and increasing healing times in case of illness.
Numerous studies carried out on this mushroom have shown that the polysaccharides, beteglucans and triterpenes of Reishi act well in regulating the immune response, stimulating the leukocytes, monocytes, macrophages, NK cells and LAK cells.
There are also numerous studies that have highlighted Reishi's ability to regulate blood sugar. The intake of the mushroom can be useful to prevent and to counter the development of diabetes, both type 1 and type 2 , because it reduces the presence of glucose in the blood by acting on three levels:
Today 70% of cholesterol has endogenous origin, that is, it is produced by our liver.
There are several studies showing how Ganoderma lucidum acts on the endogenous production of bad cholesterol, reducing it. In fact, studies have shown that the intake of Ganoderma Lucidum increases the levels of lanosterol and squalene, thus blocking the synthesis of cholesterol which is reduced
According to several studies , Ganoderma lucidum seems to be particularly effective in modulating the immune response to external agents, including substances that more and more frequently create allergic reactions, such as pollen, animal hair, mites, dust, nickel, etc.
This is possible thanks to the presence of some triterpenes called Ganoderic Acid A, B, C and D which allow a reduction of the histamine release by Mast cells.
Remembering all the studies done and the beneficial properties of this mushroom is practically impossible. Here I just list some of the best known properties:
Ganoderma lucidum powder can be taken alone, mixed in water, or in other drinks such as tea and herbal teas. 2 to 3 coffee spoons per day are recommended .
No significant side effects from the use of Ganoderma lucidum have been identified from the studies carried out. At normal dosages the reishi mushroom is a safe, as well as effective product. However, Ganoderma lucidum is contraindicated for people allergic to fungi and people who have undergone an organ transplant .
The main interactions between Reishi and drugs concern anticoagulant and antiplatelet medicines, of which Ganoderma lucidum can reinforce the effects, increasing the risk of bleeding and bleeding, and immunosuppressive drugs.

Lo sto assumendo per le note proprietà anti-allergiche. Effettivamente sto notando degli ottimi risultati, tant'è che fin'ora non ho ancora avuto bisogno di assumere antistaminici. Lo consiglio.
